New York Yankees beaten by Detroit Tigers 0-3 in Game 2 of ALCS – MLB Update
New York Yankees continued to slip downhill as they lost to the Detroit Tigers 0-3 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Sunday, October 14 in Game 2 of their best of seven American League Championship Series.
Tigers dominated the Yankees in Game 1 of the series and the pitching rotation continued to dictate terms in Game 2 to set up an easy shut-out victory.
Starter Anibal Sanchez played a big part in deciding the outcome of the contest as he tossed up seven scoreless innings to help the Tigers take complete control of the situation.
His counterpart from New York, Hiroki Kuroda leaked three runs and five hits in a low scoring game to take the loss. Relief pitcher Boone Logan, Joba Chamberlain, Clay Rapada and Cody Eppley combined to pitch two scoreless inning but the Yankees were unable
to score any runs on Sunday, giving Tigers a 2-0 series lead.
"It's definitely not an ideal situation," Alex Rodriguez said. "We'd rather be up 2-0 and facing a Triple-A pitcher. That would be nice. But we've done it all year. A lot of people counted us out. It seems like we thrive on coming back."
"We're not in a great position, definitely not," Mark Teixeira said. "I don't think anyone is happy about what happened the last two days, but we do have a day off [Monday] to kind of clear our heads, refocus on the job that we have to do -- because if we
don't get it done, the season's going to be over."
Manager Joe Girardi will be very upset with what he seen from his men in first two games of the series. With Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander starting the Game on Tuesday evening; it may not be possible for them to find a way back into the series.
However, throughout this season, Girardi and company have shown that they have the ability to bounce back when least expected. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees can find a way to convert the scoring opportunities in their upcoming games to keep
the American League Championship Series alive.
