New York Yankees beaten by Oakland Athletics 2-5 – MLB news
New York Yankees were stunned by the Oakland Athletics 2-5 at O.co Coliseum, Oakland California on Wednesday, June 12 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win against the Yankees, the A’s also wrapped up an impressive series win against their American League rivals. A lot of credit should be given to the A’s pitching rotation for executing their game plan to perfection.
Oakland edged past the Yankees 6-4 in the opener and they continued the good work in Game to earn an important home series win, improving their record to 40-27 to stay at the top of American League West Division standings table. It will be interesting to
see if the A’s can produce another similar performance in the finale to complete a rare series sweep against the Yankees.
“Last year in Triple-A, I did it at exactly this time. I had three weeks straight where the only hits I had were home runs,” Brandon Moss said in a post game interview. “I'll take that. It's not where I want to be, obviously. I'd much rather be getting hits
also. I said it a long time ago, I've done it before where I've sacrificed power for hits. It still didn't turn out well. If you're able to contribute and drive in runs when you do connect, it's definitely better than taking your seat.”
Starting pitcher Dan Straily had a great time on the mound as he allowed just three hits and two runs in six plus effective innings against a powerful batting line-up. Striking out batters regularly, the right hander showed nerves of steel under pressure
to claim his fourth win of the season.
For New York, starter Phil Hughes paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound, allowing four hits and three runs in just over four innings to take his fifth loss of the year. Relief pitcher Boone Logan and Joba Chamberlain also struggled to pitch
with control and accuracy as they combined to give up four hits and two runs in just 1.2 innings of relief.
