New York Yankees beaten by Tampa Bay Rays 1-3 – MLB news
New York Yankees continued their poor run as they lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 1-3 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Sunday, June 23 in the finale of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was another disappointing loss for the Yankees who have been struggling to find any consistency in their game play since the start of the season. Yankees displayed some top quality baseball skills in the American League East Division last season as they
made it to the playoffs comfortably. However, things look quite different for them this year as they look to find a way of replacing the Boston Red Sox at the top of the AL East standings table.
Manager Joe Girardi will be very disappointed with the outcome of the clash but without a shadow of a doubt the Yankees have the ability to overcome even the best in the business. It will be interesting to see if they can find an inspiration from their overall
MLB record to turn things around.
“I'm a big chips and salsa man, and there was some excellent chips and salsa,” Maddon said. “I wanted to talk to Jake and Joel. So I got a little bucket of salsa, a little bucket of chips and I sat down with both of them.”
“It was a good moment to just exchange thoughts, and I wanted them to know how much I believe in them, because that was a tough game for those guys,” Maddon said in a post game interview.
Starting pitcher Ivan Nova worked up six plus solid innings allowing just three hits while striking out seven batters but the night belonged to the Rays who showed nerves of steel under pressure to prevail. Nova gave up seven hits to take his second loss
of the year. Relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain and Boone Logan had a great time on the mound but they also ended up on the losing side. For the Rays, starter Chris Archer conceded just a run in six innings for his second win of the season.
