New York Yankees cancel out Luis Vizcaino’s contract
New York Yankees have rescinded a contract tying Luis Vizcaino to the minor leagues. The player had the deal called off after he suffered an injury in the Dominican Republic. The Yanks confirmed the decision after it was determined
that Luis would be inactive for the entire year following his fallout from the game.
The Bronx Bombers have been trying their best to strengthen their squad with veteran players who may climb out of spring training and impress the management in the minor leagues. Vizcaino, being a relief pitcher, was part of the
farm system and his emphasis on a club role in the bullpen during the regular league season rested on his ability to impress the club and the management. Nevertheless, the injury is not something that Luis is not familiar with. His career has faced many instances
where the injuries have wiped off most of his playtime in the competition.
His recent injury came as a result of his winter ball exhibition in the Dominican Republic. Playing for the Aguilas Cibaenas was one of the highlights of his impressive return from a rigid lay off from baseball. The Yankees wanted
to make the most of the situation by signing on the player in December, but their expectations were dampened by a sad end to Vizcaino’s stint in the Winter League. The player tore his Achilles tendon during the stint and reports have confirmed that he will
not be able to play in 2011.
Luis missed most of his last two seasons due to his troubling arm and that highlights the irony linked with the relief pitcher’s situation. The Yankees had given the player an option to pick up $750,000 if he had made it to the
major leagues but that will not be a possibility anymore. During winter ball, he allowed just one run in 11.67 innings of pitching for the Aguilas Cibaenas. His earning runs average was 0.77. The last time Luis pitched in the Major League was back in 2009
when he was on the Cleveland Indians’ roster.
