New York Yankees clear favourites for World Series title – MLB Update
Joe Girardi and his men have been looking in outstanding form since the start of the season. New York Yankees can easily claim to be the number one team in Major League Baseball right now. The way they outplayed Boston Red Sox in a four game series before
the All Star Break explains the level of comfort they are feeling right now.
Yankees’ record of 52-33 before the All Star Break is the best in club’s history over the same stretch. Not only they have some of the finest hitters in their offensive lineup, their bullpen has created problems for the MLB hitters throughout the season.
In C.C. Sabathia, they have one of the best starting pitchers in the game. Yankees’ ace is currently on the disabled list with a strain in his left leg and he will be looking to continue his impressive winning streak on his return. Ivan Nova has also emerged
a formidable starter for the Yankees this year.
On Sunday last week, he dominated the Red Sox to register his 10th win of the season. Allowing just one run and striking-out ten in six innings, he showed the baseball world what exactly he is capable of.
"We haven't played the Yankees in a while, but I noticed this weekend that you can't make mistakes when you play against them," Red Sox slugger David Ortiz told MLB.com last weekend. "You make a mistake, they'll make you pay. That's how good teams are."
Robinson Cano, who failed in the Home Run Derby, will be looking to carry his impressive hitting form into the second of 2012 season. Derek Jeter has also made useful contributions in many Yankees’ victories.
"We wanted to finish strong, obviously, with four days off," all-star shortstop Derek Jeter told the reporters. "We've been playing good now for it seems like quite a long time."
He averaged .299 before getting selected for the All Star Game. Everybody else in Yankees mighty hitting line-up has hit at least seven home-runs this season and it will be great upset if they don’t lift the World Series title this year.
