New York Yankees come from behind to beat Colorado Rockies 6-4 – MLB Update
The New York Yankees romped to a 6-4 win in the rubber outing of the three-game interleague series against the Colorado Rockies, at Yankee Stadium, on Sunday, June 26 to grab the series 2-1.
After losing the first game by 4-2, the Yankees rebound in a strong fashion on Saturday and nipped their two game losing streak by overpowering the Rockies with a huge 8-3 margin in the second game of the series. With this win, the Yankees have now gained
the first position in the American League with 45 wins. Boston Red Sox also has the same amount of wins but they have lost 32 games, one more than the Yankees 31 defeats.
Colorado achieved a 3-0 lead over the Yankees until the fifth inning and their starter Juan Nicasio held the Yankees to no-score in his first four innings. In the fifth inning though, the Yankees’ bat awakened and they marshalled until they confirmed their
second straight triumph.
Nicasio conceded three runs in the fifth inning and ended his five innings spell making just two strike-outs. However, he received some words of appreciation from his manager Jim Tracy.
"It might have distorted his focus a bit," Rockies’ manager Jim Tracy said. "You have to remember that he's had about six or seven career starts."
Nick Swisher took the pledge with dazzling 366-feet long two-run homer and then Jorge Posada carried his impetus with an RBI single to tie the game at 3-all in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, the Rockies Ty Wigginton took the lead to 4-3 with his
a 358-feet long sky high one run home-run off the Yankees’ starter Ivan Nova.
This hit ended Nova’s game with four allowed runs, three walks and four strike-outs over six innings. However, this hit might have ended Nova’s three-game winning streak but the Yankees’ star hitter Alex Rodriguez stole an RBI single to tie the game at 4-all
in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the seventh inning Eduardo Nunez blistered a tie braking single and then Mark Teixeira launched a game winning 370-feet long one-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Yankees’ manager then was sure about his victory due to the quality of closer
he has available to him.
Mariano Rivera repeated his previous performance and tossed a scoreless ninth to take his club into a leading position in the American League. Rivera’s 23 straight saves dated back to last season, is the third-longest streak in the interleague since his
start in 1997.
The game was dominated with homers as the Rockies and the Yankees launched a combined six home-runs. Rockies’ Ty Wigginton launched two while Chris Iannetta hammered one and the Yankees’ Nick Swisher, Jorge Posada and Mark Teixeira each brewed one homer.
