New York Yankees could bring in outfielder Torii Hunter – MLB Update
The New York Yankees' management is serious to bring in Los Angeles Angels' star performer Torii Hunter if the Los Angeles side does not finalise any qualifying offer to him any time soon.
"It's kind of disappointing, but what are you going to do? If they don't make an offer by Friday, I haven’t talked to them in a couple of weeks, I don’t know where we stand,” Hunter said by phone from Texas and explained the current situation.
Hunter added, “It's weird, but it's real — that's the business side that people don't like, sometimes you have good people you want to keep and there's something that ties the organization down that doesn't allow it to keep that player. Sometimes you have good people you want to keep and there’s something that ties the organization down that doesn’t allow you to keep that player.”
Currently a free agent, Hunter making the free agency market more open and many teams are showing interest in him.
He is coming off a very good season in which he maintained his .313 hitting average along with 16 homers, 92 RBIs and .365 OBP. While his career .277 hitting average along with 297 home-runs, 1143 RBIs and .335 OBP also places him among the best outfielders in the league.
Sources are now speculating in the media that New York Yankees are also among the top teams who want Hunter’s services. There are certain factors which have been pushing the Yankees to bring in a talented outfielder since they came out of the post-season.
Right fielder Nick Swisher is likely to become a free agent and his replacement is vital. If he signs somewhere else in the league, then the Yankees will be in great trouble to fill his gap.
Swisher is a decent player and showed good consistency in the 2012 Major League Baseball regular and post-season.
He maintained his hitting average at .272 along with 24 homers, 93 RBIs and .364 OBP. While his career .256 hitting average along with 209 home-runs, 673 RBIs and .361 OBP also makes him a good role player in the league.
