New York Yankees crash to 5-8 loss against Toronto Blue Jays – MLB Update
New York Yankees continued their decline as they lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 5-8 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday, August 29 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Right fielder Andruw Jones looked in top form as he earned an RBI single to centre in the first inning to put Yankees on the board. Curtis Granderson also had an excellent time on the plate as he grounded into fielder’s choice to double New York’s lead to
2-0. He later added a double to deep left in the third to keep Toronto on the defensive.
"We didn't play well, that's the bottom line," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said. "We had chances offensively: didn't get it done. We had chances defensively: didn't get it done."
"Today epitomized a game in which we had contributions from a number of guys," manager John Farrell said with a smile on his face.
However, the Blue Jays were not in the mood to give up without a fight. Yunel Escobar drove in five runs to give his side an impassable 8-5 lead, which lasted until the end of the contest. Yankees’ starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia took his fourth loss of the
season after giving up nine hits and five runs in seven innings.
"It's definitely disappointing," ace Sabathia said in a post game interview. "It's all my fault, obviously."
"I wanted to try to get ahead, try to stay with my strengths," said J.A. Happ, who struck-out Nick Swisher and Robinson Cano.
Yankees were the superior of the two teams in Game 2 as they held their nerves to clinch a thrilling 2-1 win. However, they failed to win crucial battles on Wednesday and the Blue Jays came back from behind to wrap up an impressive series victory.
Despite taking the loss, the Yankees are placed first on the American League East Division standings table. With the likes of Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles working hard to get back into the playoff race, Manager Joe Girardi will be expecting his team
to deliver the goods on a regular basis.
