New York Yankees crush Detroit Tigers 7-0 – MLB Update
New York Yankees annihilated the Detroit Tigers 7-0 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, April 7 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season. With their win the Yankees also managed to avoid a painful
series sweep against their American League rivals.
Tigers executed their game plan to perfection in Game 2 of the series but they were unable to continue their good form in the finale. Yankees, on the other hand, took complete advantage of the season to post their first series win of the season. It will
be extremely important for the Yankees to continue their good work in the upcoming games to win back their fans’ hearts.
Tigers who dominated their American League Central Division rivals in every aspect of the game in the opener were unable to come up with the winning formula in the finale. Despite putting up a brave fight, Jim Leyland and his men were unable to cross the
finish line. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can learn from their mistakes before the start of their next series against the New York Yankees on a bright note.
"You always want to avoid a sweep and finish a series well," Sabathia said. "It felt good to get a win."
"The only must-win you need is when you're about to be eliminated," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said.
"They're missing some pieces, but they're always going to be good," Leyland said. "They'll be right in the thick of things like they always are."
"Poor pitch selection and poor pitch execution on the same pitch usually doesn't end up too well," he added.
"Pitching dictates everything, and CC pretty much dictated the pace," Leyland said.
Yankees’ starting pitcher CC Sabathia showed the stuff he is capable of as he allowed just four hits in seven scoreless innings to claim his first win of the season. His counterpart from Detroit, the American League Most Valuable Player, was unable to live
up to the expectations as he gave up seven hits and three runs in seven plus innings. The Yankees look very strong and the fans will be hoping that they can carry their momentum forward in the regular season.
