New York Yankees crush Los Angeles Angels 5-0 – MLB Update
New York Yankees crushed Los Angeles Angels 5-0 at the Yankee Stadium in New York on Friday, April 13 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Alex Rodriguez will be very pleased with his performance as he hit his 630th career home run to tie Ken Griffey Jr on the list of most home runs. Hiroki Kuroda pitched with good control and accuracy on his debut at the Yankee stadium. Kuroda
showed why is an asset for the Yankees as he pitched neatly deep into the ninth inning and the Yankees eased past the Angels 5-0.
"I think everybody showed how we feel about Georgie. I think we did feed off that," Rodriguez said. "We also fed off the fans. Playing here in our stadium, we've always played very well here."
"I always try to have the same approach no matter where I pitch or when I pitch," Kuroda said through a translator. "I was able to pitch with confidence."
Curtis Granderson also made valuable contribution hitting a home run to right field in hitting friendly conditions of Yankee Stadium. Yankees have now 14 out of their last fifteen home games.
Angels’ slugger Albert Pujols had another ordinary outing as he singled in four at bats. Pujols has just .222 average with no home runs this season. He will be hoping to play a key role in the upcoming game to help the Angels level the series.
"Albert is going to be there, but we have to be more than Albert, and we are," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.
With their win over the Angels on Friday night, the Yankees improved their win-loss record to 4-3. After making a poor start to 2012 regular season campaign, it seems things have finally started to work out for the Yankees.
Making the most of available opportunities, the Yankees thrashed Baltimore Orioles 3-0 in their previous three games series. Yankees’ win over the Angels was their fourth straight win after suffering three defeats. It will be interesting to see if Joe Girardi
and company can continue their impressive form throughout the season to give themselves a chance to win the American League Central Division title.
