New York Yankees crush Minnesota Twins 8-2 – MLB Update
New York Yankees crushed the Minnesota Twins 8-2 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday, September 26 in the finale of their three match series.
Yankees dominated their rivals right from the start of the contest. Robinson Cano displayed some top quality hitting skills as he doubled to deep right in the third inning to put New York on the board. Nick Swisher continued his excellent hitting form as he singled to right in the third to extend Yankees’ lead 2-1.
However, the star of the show was Curtis Granderson who drove in crucial runs to help his side take an impassable 6-1 lead in the third inning. Granderson tripled to right and later scored on a wild pitch to keep Twins on the defensive. Chris Dickerson hit the only home-run of the game in the sixth inning.
Yankees’ starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia played a key role in deciding the outcome of the contest as he gave up just six hits and two runs in eight innings to grab his 14th win of the season. Striking-out 10 batters, Sabathia used his fastballs very accurately to create all sorts of problems for Minnesota’s batting line-up.
"This is what he can do. He can string a bunch of good ones together. And if there's a time, now's the time," manager Joe Girardi said.
"That's the best I've seen him, and I've been watching him for a long time," Joe Mauer said of Sabathia at the end of the contest. "When I was up there he was both sides of the plate: fastball, slider, sinker. He threw me everything, and everything was working."
"We're in a race. We know it's going to be tough. So you want to go out and do well every time out," Sabathia said in a post game interview.
Relief pitcher Cody Eppley pitched the scoreless ninth to help Yankees hold on to their lead comfortably.
Right now, Yankees are placed first on the American League East Division and it will be interesting to see if they can stay at the top of the standings to make it to the playoffs.
The Yankees will definitely be happy with their performance as they managed to dominate the Twins and take a decent victory.
