New York Yankees crush New York Mets 8-3 – MLB Spring Training
New York Yankees crushed New York Mets 8-3 at the George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida on Wednesday, April 4 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Pettitte pitched a scoreless inning in his first spring game. Putting up a strong show after his one year long retirement, he helped the Yankees beat the Mets comfortably. Pettitte is expected to start his season in Yankees’ minor league system but if he continues to pitch like that he could be ready for the majors as early as may 2012.
"Obviously, anytime you get fans to cheer for you, that's a good thing," Pettitte said. "It's all coming back. I feel like the stuff is there. I just have to build stamina. It felt good to be able to get out there and get the inning in, especially in a big league game.”
"It was good to see him get on the hill," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "I thought he was all right. I hope that everything goes according to plan, and look at five or six starts to build him up."
With Michael Pineda placed on the disabled list due to an injury and Ivan Nova looking struggling to find his form, Andy Pettitte will have an excellent chance to reclaim a spot on Yankees’ pitching rotation
The Yankees will be very pleased to avenge their loss to the Mets in their previous game. Dominating their neighbours in almost all aspects of the game, the Yankees ran the show on Wednesday night.
The Yankees have now improved their spring win-loss record to 18-12 and surely they will be hoping to continue their impressive form in the upcoming regular season. It will be interesting to see if Joe Girardi and his men can maintain their winning streak throughout the season to make it to the playoffs.
The Mets, on the other hand, will be sad by the fact they failed to post a decent score on the board. It will be fair to say that Yankees’ pitching lineup proved to be too strong for them.
