New York Yankees crush Oakland Athletics 6-3 – MLB Update
New York Yankees continued to show signs of improvement as they beat Oakland Athletics 6-3 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Robinson Cano provided the Yankees with an extremely positive start as he took complete advantage of an error by Athletics’ centre fielder. Mark Teixeira homered to right in the third to extend Yankees’ lead to 3-0.
Josh Reddick hit a solo home run in the fourth to bring the Athletics back into the contest but home runs from Robinson Cano and Nick Swisher in the fifth inning gave New York complete control of the situation. Although the Athletics ended the game
on a strong note, they were unable to move past Yankees’ final score.
Oakland’s starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed six runs and 11 hits in just over 4 innings.
"I think they just see the ball a little bit better against me," Ross said. "The split-change is something I need to keep working on to disrupt their timing and get them off all the hard stuff that's coming in there. I'm just going to keep working
and try to mess around with that grip a little bit and take some more velocity off that."
"During the season, you have a lot of highs and a lot of lows," Swisher said in a post game interview. "The past couple weeks for us haven't been exactly what we wanted."
Showing great determination, fighting spirit and mental strength, the Yankee put up another brilliant performance to earn their third straight win. After losing to Toronto Blue Jays and Cincinnati Reds, Joe Maddon and company have raised their game
play to a higher level.
It seems their series win against Kansas City Royals have lifted their spirits and they are looking confident than ever before. With their win against Oakland on Friday evening, New York also improved their record to 24-21. It will be exciting to see
if the team can keep on giving masterful performances to put find themselves in an assertive position before the All Star Break.
