New York Yankees crushed by New York Mets 1-3 – MLB news
New York Yankees continued their poor form as they took an embarrassing 1-3 loss against the New York Mets at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Thursday, May 30 in the finale of their two match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was Mets’ fourth straight win against their cross town rivals as they improved their record to 22-29. A lot credit should be given to the Mets for executing their game plan to perfection against the Yankees in a game that turned out to be completely one
sided.
Mets’ batting line-up, in particular, played a big part in deciding the outcome of the clash as they stacked a decent total on the board.
Yankees, on the other hand, failed the most of available opportunities and eventually paid the price. Manager Joe Girardi will be expecting his men to regroup and fight back to avoid another similar humiliating series sweep. It will be interesting to see
if the Yankees can turn things around in front of their home crowd to get back on the road to victory.
“It's always fun to win this series, especially for our fans,” Mets captain David Wright said. “It gives our fans some bragging rights.”
“You're playing as hard as you always do, but you know it's something special for the fans,” Marlon Byrd said. “We can't go on the road and let up.”
“It's hard when you lose to your crosstown rivals,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “You don't want to be part of a team that gets swept by your crosstown rivals. Over time, it's going to happen, but you don't want to be the team that it happens to.”
Yankees’ starting pitcher Vidal Nuno had a poor time on the mound as he allowed three hits and two runs in six innings in a low scoring contest. Relief pitchers Shawn Kelley gave up an RBI single to third in the eighth inning. Boone Logan and Joba Chamberlain
combined to pitch 1.2 scoreless innings of relief but unfortunately for the Yankees their effort went in vain as the Mets held on to their slim lead to complete a deserving win.
