New York Yankees defeat Chicago White Sox 7-2 – MLB Update
American League’s New York Yankees completely destroyed the rivals Chicago White Sox 7-2 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, August 4 to earn a white-wash in the four-game series.
After crushing the White Sox 3-2 in the first, 6-0 in the second and 18-7 in the third game, the Yankees were not ready to stop their batting at any cost. They started this game with the same impetus and carried this thrust until they finalised their win.
Robinson Cano began the destruction, launching a dazzling homer for one run against the White Sox starter Philip Humber in the top of the second inning.
"That was a good pitch, that guy's out of this world, especially right now," said White Sox starter Phil Humber. "He's so locked in, so balanced, the swings he took this series, pretty impressive.”
After the White Sox Juan Pierre tied the game in the bottom of the third inning, Curtis Granderson utilised his granular swing to add a leading RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. Jorge Posada and Russell Martin each added an RBI single in the seventh
to elevate the lead to 4-1 in the top of the seventh inning.
Martin also launched a 437-feet long three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to take the lead to 7-1.
Until then, Nova and his companions restricted the White Sox batting to just one run. Nova threw just over seven innings, allowed one run and made 10 strike-outs to snatch his tenth win of the season. He scattered only six hits of his 102 pitches to elevate
his record to 10-4 with a 3.81 ERA.
"That might be as good as we've seen him all year," Girardi said. "This start and Cincinnati. He was excellent tonight. His slider, again, made a huge difference for him."
Nova gave his sixth hit in the eighth inning and then manager Joe Girardi replaced him with David Robertson, who worked eight hitless pitches to complete the inning and grab his 22nd hold of the 2011 regular season. Hector Noesi also tossed 10
strikes of 14 pitches but a homer did not let him win his first save of the season.
Yankees not only grabbed a series but also become the third team in baseball’s modern history to white-wash without allowing any walk.
