New York Yankees defeat Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 – MLB Update
The New York Yankees romped to a 5-2 triumph in the second outing against the Milwaukee Brewers at Yankee Stadium, New York on Wednesday, June 29, to take their fourth-straight triumph and lead the series by 2-0.
Despite getting under one run deficit in the top of the first inning, the Yankees’ starter Allan Jones Burnett did not lost his momentum and held the Brewers to this score until the sixth inning. In this inning, he gave away his second run to the Brewers’
first baseman Prince Fielder.
Besides these runs, the 34-year-old veteran hurler, who had to bear four consecutive losses before this, did not scattered any run and struck-out four batters over seven innings to clinch his eighth win in 2011. He also allowed two walks and seven hits.
Burnett was not saddened due to his poor performance in the previous games instead he considered it a great period for mental practice.
He said, "It's all mental, man. It is sad but true. It believes in all my pitches."
The Yankees’ bat awakened in the fourth inning when they immediately blistered four runs to take the game back to their court 4-1. Nick Swisher, who is one of those hitters who have made more than forty RBIs this season, led the game for the Yankees with
his 43rd season-RBI in the fourth inning. Catcher Ryan Martin followed Swisher and hammered a dazzling three-run homer, his 10th in the season, to take his team into a strong position.
"It felt like it had been a while," Martin said. "Obviously, I want to do well offensively, but I kind of don't really think about it when we're winning so many games. It's definitely nice to join the party a little bit."
The Brewers made their second run in the top of the sixth inning, as the Yankees’ Jorge Posada hammered a flat home-run for one run and cement their 5-2 position.
The Yankees were leading the game 5-2 at the end of the seventh inning when Burnett completed his spell and then his reliever David Robertson struck-out two of the Milwaukee’s batters to pitch a scoreless eighth inning. Closer Mariano Rivera also tossed
a perfect last inning to get his 21st save and the club’s 47th win in 2011.
The Brewers’ ace Shaun Marcum allowed four runs on five hits allowed three walks and struck-out six batters but remained winless for the third time in 17 starts. Getting his third consecutive loss, the 29-year-old’s record now has declined to 7-3 with 3.16
ERA.
His reliever Tim Dillard also went for one run on a hit over his one innings pitching, however later relief pitcher Zach Braddock and closer Kameron Loe both remained scoreless over their one inning each spell.
