New York Yankees defeat Minnesota Twins 8-3 – MLB Update
New York Yankees defeated Minnesota Twins 8-3 at the Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Tuesday, April 17 in second game of a four match series between the two teams.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the Yankees have one of the strongest pitching line-ups in American League. In C.C. Sabathia, Hiroki Kuroda and Freddy Garcia, the Yankees have some of the most reliable pitchers in MLB right now.
Sabathia once again showed just why he is an important player for the Yankees as he tossed seven strong innings to help his team establish complete control over the contest. After making slow start, the veteran bombers’ pitcher managed to get his first win
on Tuesday evening. April has never proved to be lucky for the starter as he is only 18-14 in April in his entire big league career.
Allowing only three runs on four hits in just over seven innings, the Yankees’ ace played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game. Sabathia struck out seven and walked in a solid outing.
He was very pleased with the efforts of pitching Coach Larry Rothschild who has worked hard with him during the training sessions. Chris Stewart also had a great time on the plate as he added a career high three RBI’s including a go ahead run.
"It's just one of those things," Sabathia said.
"Fastball command got a lot better," the big left-hander said. "Everybody knows I throw everything off my fastball. Changeup got a lot better. Curveball was really good tonight, too."
"It's a kid's game and you've got to play it like a kid, and you can't put too much pressure on yourself. The weight of the world is not on your shoulder," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. I said my piece and I got dejected, and then ejected.”
The Yankees have been struggling to find consistency in their results since the start of 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. Although they suffered a sweep in their three game match-up with Tampa Bay Rays 3-0, they have come back strongly since then,
winning six of their last eight games.
