The New York Yankees defeated by the city rivals the New York Mets 4-6 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday June 22 at Citi Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Yankees are experiencing a tough period at the moment as they suffered third consecutive defeat since June, 19.
On the other hand, their rivals entered into this game with big heart as they recently outclassed the Baltimore Orioles in their three-match regular series encounter 3-0.
Mets’ played combined and never gave the Yankees any chance to play them easy instead they kept them under pressure and won in the end.
Frank Francisco pitched the last inning with tremendous power and finished scoreless on one hit. He also maintained his ERA at 4.97 and proved one of the winning factors in his team’s win.
"I didn't mean to hurt anybody's feelings, It was a simple comment. They tried to give me a little bit of a hard time, Lately, I've been fighting a little bit with my command but I myself out there and got out of the situation.” Francisco said after the
win as his last innings proved wonderful for the Mets as his team easily smooth passed the big team in American League.
Later Mets’ manager Terry Collins said on his team’s great win and on different aspects which were the main reasons of victory, “Ike is very determined to get out of this. He's been fighting it, fighting it, fighting it, And now, all of a sudden, some of
the balls he's swinging at, he's hitting them on the barrel of the bat instead of swinging and missing, and if he can do that, he's going to be dangerous."
Starter Jonathon Niese also did well and pitched 6.1 solid innings and gave two runs on eight hits. He also gave only two earned runs and maintained his 3.75 ERA.
The Yankees starter Andy Pettitte however, could not show his natural game and smashed for five runs on seven hits. He also gave five earned runs including a home run and six strikeouts.
