New York Yankees dominate Baltimore Orioles 5-3 for second straight win – MLB Update
New York Yankees dominance is getting bigger as they overpowered the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 in the second straight game at Yankee Stadium in New York on Tuesday, September 6 to take a 2-0 lead in the three game series.
Yankees’ bat and ball again combined to create a devastating storm against the league rivals. Phil Hughes restricted the opposition to no-score in his first five innings. He allowed his first run to Mark Wieters, who blistered a fastball two rows back into
the stands for a two run home-run in the sixth inning.
This hit stopped Hughes outing. Beside this hit, he has given four more to consume two runs. Right-hand hurler struck-out five batters and permitted one walk but his ERA made his outing winless. He completed his game with an extremely high 6.41 ERA.
Jorge Posada launched a beautiful 364-feet long one run homer off the Orioles’ starter Tommy Hunter to kick off the game in the third inning. Yankees earned their second run on an error by left-fielder Matt Angle, who permitted Jorge Posada to score.
Orioles' Mark Wieters tied the game at 2-all in the top of the sixth but Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson and Derek Jeter joined hands to take the Yankees into a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the inning.
Game took another twist when Nick Markakis doubled to deep right-centre for an RBI single against Hector Noesi in the top of the seventh inning. The game tier hit was allowed by Boone Logan, who relieved Noesi just two pitches before this hit.
The game was tied before the start of the bottom of the seventh inning, but Francisco Cervelli and Brett Gardner each recorded single home-run to advance the Yankees lead to 5-3. Two fans grabbed Cervelli’s hit just above the left-fielder standing down to
catch. Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter argued that the ball was in the park but Umpires watched the replay and retained their original home-run call.
"They will tell you, even though they didn't tell me, that they need indisputable evidence to overturn what the decision was on the field," Showalter said. "I haven't looked real good at it. I know what the players saw."
Cory Wade worked only two strike pitches to get his fourth win of the season. David Robertson and Mariano Rivera remained hitless in the eighth and the ninth inning respectively. Robertson earned his 31st hold and Rivera recorded his 39th
save in the 2011 regular season.
Yankees are leading the American League with 87 wins. Their current form suggests their mood of another World Series win, but they still have to face the stronger Philadelphia Phillies in the championship series. Phillies are leading the National League
with 90 wins.
