New York Yankees dominate Minnesota Twins 6-3 – MLB Update
New York Yankees secured a comfortable 6-3 win against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Monday, September 24 in the opening game of their three match series.
Twins, who had a great series against the Detroit Tigers, were looking to continue their excellent work against the Yankees but that did not turn out to be the case.
Twins’ starting pitcher Liam Hendriks had a terrible outing as he gave up eight hits and six runs in six plus innings to take his eighth loss of the season.
Relief pitchers Luis Perdomo, Tyler Robertson and Matt Capps combined to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings but the Yankees held on to their lead comfortably to secure a much needed victory.
"I wouldn't say that," manager Joe Girardi said of a large game and a half cushion that the Yankees have. "Any time you can make it bigger than it's been, it's nice."
Yankees’ starter Andy Pettitte, on the other hand, enjoyed a great time on the mound as he tossed up six shut-out innings to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash.
Pettitte has looked in tremendous form since returning from the Disabled List and it will be interesting to see if he can continue his good work to help his team make it to the World Series finals.
"I love this guy. There's nothing that fazes him," Swisher said of Pettitte. "You can only just look at that and be like, 'Man, I want to be like that.'"
"I'm happy to get through it, happy to give us a good start," Pettitte said, adding: "It's just there's definitely some room for me to improve."
"Right now I feel like everything is kind of rolling for us," said Nick Swisher.
Robinson Cano grounded out to shortstop in the first inning to put Yankees on the board. Nick Swisher homered to right centre and Curtis Granderson smacked a solo home-run to right in the fourth to give Yankees a commanding 4-0 lead. Raul Ibanez and Eric
Chavez hit back-to-back home-runs to ensure Yankees reach home safely.
The Yankees will definitely be happy as they managed to dominate the Twins and build up some much needed confidence with their decisive victory.
