New York Yankees edge Atlanta Braves 3-2 in series’ finale – MLB Update
New York Yankees extended their winning streak to six games as they edged Atlanta Braves 3-2 at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
General Manager Brian Cashman will be very happy with what he has seen from Alex Rodriguez over the last couple of weeks.
Rodriguez, who is one of the most expensive players in the league, started the season poorly but he has done well on his last few appearances on the plate.
In a low scoring game on Wednesday evening, the hard hitting third baseman earned an RBI single in the first inning to put his side 1-0 ahead
Atlanta’s catcher Brian McCann looked on top of his game play as he homered to right in the fifth inning to help his team take a crucial 2-1 lead but it was Yankees who held their nerves under pressure.
Curtis Granderson hit a mighty home run to right in the sixth inning to help New York comeback from behind to snatch an important victory.
Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda also looked comfortable on the mound, giving up two runs in six innings to improve his record to 6-6.
"I think getting comfortable in New York sometimes can take a while," Girardi said. "I've seen it happen to some great pitchers. It can take a while."
"I don't know if I'm getting comfortable in New York," Kuroda said through a translator. "I think it's one win at a time, one game at a time."
"This is what we saw in spring training," Girardi added. "This is what we saw last year and the scouts all saw. It's just consistency. You're starting to see the consistent velocity. You're starting to see the consistent slider, a better curveball.”
Credit must be given to Joe Girardi and his men for their composure in a three game series against the Braves.
The Yankees have now taken the first place on American League East Division standings and it will be interesting to see if they can continue their impressive run throughout this year to make it to the playoffs.
