New York Yankees edge Boston Red Sox 10-8 in high scoring thriller – MLB Update

New York Yankees edged Boston Red Sox 10-8 in a high scoring thriller at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday, July 6 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson combined to put the Yankees on the board in the first inning. Mark Teixeira singled to right-centre and Nick Swisher hit a sacrifice fly to right as the Yankees scored five runs in the first. Boston bounced
back superbly to take a 7-6 lead in the fifth but the Yankees stuck to their task brilliantly.
Teixeira tripled to deep-centre in the seventh to help the Yankees reclaim the lead. Raul Ibanez and Eric Chavez also displayed some top quality hitting skills to give the Yankees a decisive 10-7 lead. Relief pitcher Boone Logan secured his fourth win and
Rafael Soriano struck-out four to get his 20th save of the season.
"Game-winning hits always feel good," Teixeira said in a post game interview, "but that one definitely felt good."
"He doesn't have too many friends in the game," he further added. "Guy throws at people. Fact of the matter, I'm not saying anything that's news."
Although the first of half of 2012 season is almost over, the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry has just begun. The Yankees had prevailed in both their two meetings earlier this season and they continued their excellent run against the Red Sox on Friday afternoon
to crush their opponents both physically and mentally.
Manager Joe Girardi will be a very content man these days. Despite losing two of their prime starting pitchers, the Yankees have managed to win games more often than not, showing the depth in their pitching rotation. Leaders of American League East Division,
the Yankees will be looking to sweep their arch rivals at Fenway Park to finish on a high note before the All Star Break.
Boston Red Sox strong show, on the other hand, should also be praised as they battled hard right until the end of the game. However, unfortunately, things did not work out for them the way they would have wanted.
