New York Yankees edge past Houston Astros 5-4 – ML B Update
New York Yankees continued their marvellous winning streak as they secured a narrow 5-4 win against the Houston Astros at Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday, May 1 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win, the Yankees also completed a deserving series victory.
Yankees’ Manager Joe Girardi will be extremely happy with the outcome of the clash. Yankees showed great determination and fighting spirits in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note. It will not be wrong to say that Joe Girardi and company
used the home conditions perfectly to create all sorts of problems for the Houston Astros’ batting line-up.
Surely the Yankees will be looking to continue their incredible winning streak in their upcoming games to replace Boston Red Sox at the top of American League East Division standings table. Starting pitcher David Phelps displayed top quality pitching skills
as he allowed just eight hits and four runs in six solid innings, laying the foundations of an impressive Yankees victory.
"Ichiro, he just hit the perfect ball," Astros’ first baseman Carlos Pena said.
"If we get that kind of effort and play baseball the way we played here these three games, we're going to win a lot of ballgames," Porter said.

"I know he expected more of himself but I was pretty pleased," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said in a post game interview.
Relief pitcher Boone Logan also made his presence felt as he allowed just one hit in 1.1 innings of relief, securing his second win of the season. David Robertson and closer Mariano Rivera also made useful contributions to help the Yankees hold on to their
slim lead in a thrilling finale.
Robinson Cano and Ben Francisco showed the stuff they are capable of as they smacked back-to-back home-runs to put their side in a strong position. The Yankees will be looking to carry their momentum forward and put in some good results in their next series.
