New York Yankees fans boo New York Jets QB Tim Tebow as he watched game from stands - NFL News
New York Jets, backup quarterback, Tim Tebow maybe one of the most popular athletes in the National Football League (NFL) but he still has a few people left to win over.
The 24-year-old went to watch a Major League Baseball (MLB) game between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels but received a chorus of boos from the Yankees fans when the cameras showed him on the stadiums big screen.
The quarterback though only smiled at the hostility and acknowledged the camera.
Tebow was sitting next to Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade who also received boos from the crowd but got cheers when he held up his Yankees cap.
The quarterback will have his moments to win over the New York sports fans on his side when he gets the chance to call the plays with the New York Jets in the new 2012-13 season of the NFL.
Yankees right midfielder, Nick Swisher joked about the crowd’s reaction to Tebow and said.
“There are a lot of fancy people that come to these games man. Welcome to New York, Tim."
The baseball team’s manager, Joe Girardi said that he did not meet with the quarterback but would love to spend time with him in the future.
He also expects the quarterback to come to more games now that he is living in the city.
"I didn't get a chance to see him. I would have loved to get a chance to see him and talk to him. I'm sure he'll be back at some point. Obviously he's going to be around a lot more now. But I'd love to visit with him at some point."
Adding further he said.
"He's one big quarterback. I see him in the stands, he doesn't look like a quarterback."
The quarterback has some way to go to convince New York City fans that his epic 2011-12 season with the Denver Broncos was not a one-off and as backup he can contribute to the Jets bid for the playoffs in the new season.
Tebow as starter turned around the season for the Broncos and led them to the American Football Conference (AFC) West division title and the playoffs.
As backup with the Jets he will have fewer snaps and will be used as part of a wildcat offence to give the franchise a plan B during close games.
