New York Yankees floor Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 – MLB News
New York Yankees started their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on a very aggressive note, securing a comfortable 6-4 win at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Wednesday, June 19 in the opening game of their two match series
of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was an important win for the Yankees who have struggled to give consistent results since the start of the season. With their win, the Yankees improved their record to 39-31 but they are still five games behind the American League
East Division leaders; the Boston Red Sox. It will be interesting to see if they can stretch their winning streak to have any chance of reclaiming the top spot on the league standings table.
Manager Jim Leyland will be of course very happy with what he saw from his men on Wednesday but surely he will be expecting similar performances from his side on regular basis.
Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda produced another magical performance as he allowed just eight hits and two runs in six plus innings to grab his seventh win of the season. The running season has turned out to be a fruitful one for
the right hander.
"Once the game started I didn't really focus too much on who I was facing," Kuroda said through a translator. "I was trying to contribute for the Yankees."
"His talent's great and his aggressiveness we love, because you love the way he plays," Mattingly said. "But we've got to make sure that we continue to teach, and for him to understand the right times to take those chances."
"I have no idea," Suzuki said through a translator. "Ask a fortune teller."
Relief pitchers David Robertson and Mariano Rivera also made useful contributions as they combined to throw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief to help the Yankees hold on to their slim lead.
Ichiro Suzuki made a big impact on the game as he smacked a solo home run to right in the sixth innings to extend Yankees’ lead to 3-0. He later drove in an RBI single to left in the seventh.
