New York Yankees grab second consecutive win against Cleveland Indians 4-0 - MLB Update
As the New York Yankees await their captain’s historical 3000th hit, they decided to collect wins while waiting, as they defeated the Cleveland Indians 4-0 in the second of the four game series on June 11 at Yankee Stadium, New York.
After suffering humiliating back-to-back defeats against their arch rivals the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees are trying to get back on the good graces of their fans by win winning consecutive games against the Indians. Cleveland has been more or less on the
top of Weekly Power Ranking since the season began.
The game witnessed quite a lot of drama that would’ve been much more expected in the Red Sox-Yankee game instead of the one against the comparatively milder Indians. Managers’ Joe Girardi and Manny Acta had quite a heated argument after Indians’ Pitcher
Fausto Carmona drilled Mark Teixeira in the back.
"I'm tired of it," Girardi said. "Our guys get hit entirely too much. We're a club that hits home runs and people don't necessarily like that."
Mitch Talbot of the Indians was asked to leave the game by Dan Iasogna, the umpire at the home plate after he hit Alex Rodriguez with two outs as the sixth inning was ending. This marked the eighth time in the last five games played by the Yankees where
they have been plunked. A-Rod did not let that affect him though as he belted out the 626th home-run of his career and the 13th one since the season began. Just four more homers and A-Rod would be all set the tie Ken Griffey Jr. on the
all-time baseball list.
Talking about records, Derek Jeter seems to be in no hurry to put any more hits on as he went on without a hit in this game as well. If the celebrated short-stop wants to achieve the historical record at Yankees Stadium like he has wished, he’ll have to
belt out nine hits within the five upcoming games.
The Bronx Bombers now have a Major League Leading 95 home-runs since the season began out of which three were belted out in this particular game. A-Rod was the first one to do the honours as he belted out a mammoth 429 feet homer in the fourth inning.
The sixth inning saw Curtis Granderson put one on the scoreboard from his side as he unleashed a home-run that covered a distance of 370 feet. The very next inning saw a partnership between Jorge Posada and Nick Swisher. Mark Teixeira wrapped up the game
hitting a 380 feet home-run.
The Yankees’ fans are now awaiting two of their most celebrated and renowned players to achieve their records which are within an arm’s length.
