New York Yankees hoping for an Alex Rodriguez return
The New York Yankees may have edged past the Texas Rangers on their last series fixture on April 17, 2011, but they did not need assistance from Alex Rodriguez to steer them away from danger.
Eric Chavez stepped up to hit a RBI single in the eighth to give the hosts at Yankee stadium a 6-5 lead. Unable to challenge the score line, the Rangers lost the game by the same tally.
The Yanks next take on the Toronto Blue Jays and Alex Rodriguez is someone manager Joe Girardi is looking to for comfort, as the team takes on the American League East rivals. The Bronx Bombers want their third baseman back by April 19, 2011, but if that
date doesn’t suit the veteran, he may well be on his way to the club on April 20, 2011.
The slugger’s delayed stay on the disabled list will prolong for another day with the treatment of ice, heat, ultrasound and whirlpool. If there is positive news coming from New York, it is Rodriguez’s own assessment. He thinks he will be back on April 19,
2011 and that his injury will not prolong his stay on the disabled list for long.
"I'd like to think that I pulled myself out, hopefully with the perfect timing", said Rodriguez, who isn't planning to undergo an MRI, either. "I felt that if I went out there and took a violent swing, perhaps I could've put myself at risk for maybe a couple
weeks".
The hitter walked off during the winning game with stiffness in the oblique lower rib cage area. The 35-year old felt the injury when he swung hard in the third inning and subsequently stole third by diving far from Elvis Andrus.
"It kind of went from a little tight, progressed to a little bit of an oblique feeling, and then the minute I felt that I had a real chance to hurt myself and risk any significant time, I told [manager] Joe [Girardi] I should go take care of this", Rodriguez
said.
On Sunday, Rodriguez had a little sore on the ribcage region. That fact has got the manager aiming for a return on April 19, 2011.
