New York Yankees humble Chicago White Sox 12-3 – MLB Update
The jubilant New York Yankees overwhelmed the Chicago White Sox 12-3 at Yankee Stadium, New York on Thursday, April 28.
The victory for New York had several contributors, as CC Sabathia was throwing unplayable pitches for the defence and more than one hitter was doing it for the offence.
After losing the first two games against Chicago, the Yankees have seemingly come back with some satisfactory preparation. Wednesday and Thursday’s wins testify the fact. "I thought our guys did a good job of just playing some small ball, getting runners
over, getting them in," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Any time you can put a big inning on someone, it really helps your starting pitcher. Starting pitchers love it.”
The first two innings went scoreless and were followed by Nick Swisher and Robinson Cano’s two runs. That gave a 2-0 lead to New York, as their offence which had clearly been struggling in last three games, started to create some chances and began to get
some big hits in the game.
The Yankees had six massive hits to pile up six runs in the fifth inning, taking the lead to an unsurpassable 8-0. Brett Gardner started it with a homer followed by Eduardo Nunez who scored a liner to left-field. Almost every hitter who came in the inning
charged Edwin Jackson who had come out to pitch for the White Sox.
The only time Chicago tried to ward off the humiliating defeat was in the seventh inning when Alexei Ramirez and Carlos Quentin charged Sabathia and scored three runs. However, that seemed to force the Yankees to go for more runs in the next inning. Granderson
and Swisher added another three runs to make it a conclusive 12-3 victory for the Yankees as Jeff Gray pitched a shut-out ninth inning.
"It's been a bad couple of weeks," White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko said. "It's been bad up to this point as a whole this season, but that doesn't mean tomorrow has to be [the same way]. It's way too early to get discouraged or to say, 'OK, this is the
team for the season.'"
It will be interesting to see how the Yankees carry their winning momentum forward into their next game. The White Sox put in a decent performance, but it was not enough to contain the powerful Yankees’ offence for a victory.
