New York Yankees humiliate Baltimore Orioles 13-2 for second straight time - MLB Update
The New York Yankees’ batters dominated, as the club romped to a 13-2 victory in the second game against the Baltimore Orioles, at the Oriole Park, on Thursday night, May 19 to grab a two-game series sweep.
Curtis Granderson hit to the deep right side of the field off the Orioles’ starter, Brad Bergesen in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead in the start of the game. Mark Teixeira followed the path set by Granderson and added another RBI single to
take it 2-0.
In the later part of the first inning, the hard-hitting Nick Swisher splashed a pitch to the left side of the field for an RBI triple to take his team to a 5-0 pressure creating lead.
After receiving a heavy blow, Bergesen struck back and held the Yankees scoreless in his next two innings. In the fourth inning though, he again went loose and gave away an RBI to Brad Gardner and Derek Jeter before his manager Buck Showalter replaced him
with Chris Jakubauskas.
The move, however did not work as Chris allowed Teixeira a two-run homer to the right side of the field to put the Orioles under 9-0 deficit until the fourth inning. Swisher and Jorge Posada each added an RBI single in the fifth and the sixth inning respectively
to earn a 11-0 lead.
The brilliant swinging from the Yankees did not stop there as Eduardo Nunez launched a beautiful 395-feet long two-run homer off the Orioles’ reliever Troy Patton in the top of the ninth inning to provide the Yankees to shut-out the rivals with 13-0.
Mark Reynolds, however, wiped out the shut-out option hitting an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jake Fox then added another RBI single to reduce the losing margin to 2-13, however remained helpless to grab the game into the Orioles side.
While the batters were smashing beautiful drives, the Yankees starter CC Sabathia held the opposition scoreless in his eight innings and managed nine strike-outs to secure his fourth win of the season. Closer Amauri Sanit gave away two runs in the last inning.
Bergesen, on the other hand, yielded eight runs on five hits, walked three and made just two strike-outs over his three innings spell to bear his fifth loss of the season. Reliever Jakubauskas was also expensive over his three innings in which he gave away
three runs on seven hits and got just one strike-out.
The same was the condition of closer Troy Patton, who scattered two runs over two innings to guide his team to their 23rd loss of the season.
