New York Yankees humiliate Boston Red Sox 14-2 – MLB Update
New York Yankees thrashed the Boston Red Sox 14-2 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday, October 3 in the finale of their three match series.
Manager Bobby Valentine will be extremely disappointed with his team’s overall performance this season and surely, he will be looking to make some changes in the batting and pitching line-ups to snap Red Sox’s losing streak.
"I didn't expect my six years to end the way it did," Matsuzaka said through a translator. "It has been really hard on me mentally for a while now."
"Very disappointing season. Extremely disappointing," Valentine said.
"To have the best record and not know where you're going is strange," manager Joe Girardi said.
"This year we had to fight, scratch and claw," Nick Swisher said.
Yankees beat their arch-rivals comprehensively in first two games of the series and they continued their excellent form in the finale as they outclassed the Red Sox in every aspect of the game. Credit should be given to the pitching rotation for limiting
the Red Sox to just two runs in a high scoring game.
Starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda led from the front as he gave up just two runs in seven effective innings to lay the foundations of an impressive Yankees’ victory.
Relief pitchers Cody Eppley, Clay Rapada and Freddy Garcia combined to pitch two scoreless innings to help Yankees close out a memorable series sweep.
Red Sox’s starter Daisuke Matsuzaka had a horrible time on the mound as he gave up six hits and five runs in just over two innings to take his seventh loss of the season. The running season has turned out to be a disaster for Matsuzaka. It will be interesting
to see if he can learn from the mistakes he has made to turn things around in the next season.
"I didn't expect my six years to end the way it did," Matsuzaka said through a translator. "It has been really hard on me mentally for a while now."
Yankees made an extremely aggressive start to the contest. After Cody Ross singled to left to give Red Sox the early 1-0 lead, Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano hit back-to-back home-runs to help Yankees establish complete control over the contest.
