New York Yankees humiliate Boston Red Sox 6-1 at Fenway Park – MLB Update
New York Yankees humiliated Boston Red Sox 6-1 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, July 7 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Nick Swisher provided Yankees with momentum early in the first inning as he hit a three run home-run to dent Red Sox confidence levels. Adam Jones also joined the party with a home-run to left in the first inning, extending Yankees’ lead to 4-0.
Jones hit his second home-run to left in the fourth inning to take the score to 5-0 and Jayson Nix hit one of Yankees’ four home-runs to deny the Red Sox any chance of coming back into the contest. Starting pitcher Freddy Garcia picked up his third win of
the season, giving up just one run and six hits.
"I just think how he was able to shut the lineup down," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said. "Look how explosive they were last night. He gave up one run in 6 2/3. He did an amazing job, he used all his pitches."
"Yeah, his fastball kept moving in over the middle of the plate to right-handed hitters. He couldn't control it," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. "He gave up the home runs to home-run hitters in hitters' counts."
The Yankees have prevailed in all four meetings between the two sides since the start of the season. Manager Joe Girardi will be an extremely satisfied man these days showing that he is the right person to lead the Yankees.
Boston’s Manager Bobby Valentine, on the other hand, has no one to blame except for himself. It will not be wrong to say that he made tactical errors on Saturday, which cost the Red Sox an important game.
However, with two more games still to be played in this series, the Red Sox will have their chance to salvage some of their lost pride. Of course, it will not be easy to bounce back against the American League East Division leaders but the Red Sox does have
some of the finest hitting and pitching talent. It will be interesting to see what Boston does to improve their competitiveness on the field against the Yankees.
