New York Yankees humiliate Cincinnati Reds 4-0 – MLB Recap
The New York Yankees humiliated the Cincinnati Reds with 4-0 defeat in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, May 18 at Yankee Stadium, New York City in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Yankees starting rotation played brilliantly and never allowed any loop holes to the dire Reds’ hitting offence who could not even score a single run in the entire game.
Especially starter Andy Pettitte proved a key factor for the Yankees’ great victory as he went eight scoreless innings allowing only four hits. He struck out nine and maintained a healthy 2.51 ERA.
"I felt like I could do this, and now it's just like I feel like the mind's getting back there, I'm just hoping and praying the body holds up. I miss the competition, I do -- I guess I do miss this, from the standpoint of being around the team and stuff like that." Pettitte said on his performance.
Later, the Yankees manager Joe Girardi also said for his veteran player. "He's got so many more weapons to go to, I thought he could bring some stabilization to our rotation. And I think he'll do that just because of who he is, his personality, his will, his focus. We are a different rotation with him."
On the other hand, the Reds’ starter Bronson Arroyo proved real disaster for his team as he gave all important four runs to the Yankees.
Once Yankees got four runs’ lead in eighth, they never allowed the Reds to come closer and eventually won with style. At no point, the Reds were in position to match the Yankees brilliance who slowly, but progressively made things more difficult for Cincinnati until winning it quite impressively.
Though the next is scheduled on Saturday, May 19, but there are very few chances that the Reds can defeat mighty New York Yankees in their home ground.
At present, the Yankees are playing with an offensive strategy and getting some good results as well. However, their winning percentage is still not that good with fourth position in the American League East Division.
