New York Yankees humiliate Milwaukee Brewers 12-2 – MLB Update
The New York Yankees overpowered their league rivals Milwaukee Brewers 12-2 in the first match of the three-game interleague series, at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, June 28.
On target to their third-consecutive win after gaining a 2-1 series over the Colorado Rockies, the Yankees’ took the game into their hands right from the first inning. They led the game off with two runs in this inning followed by five in the second, four
in the six and a single in the eighth inning as their starter allowed only two runs in the fourth inning.
Mark Teixeira launched a dazzling homer and four RBI singles to take his club to victory.
Curtis Granderson and Teixeira each scored an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. Teixeira drove in another RBI single against the Brewers’ starter Zack Greinke to open the second inning. Robinson Cano singled to shallow centre for the fourth run
and Nick Swisher launched a brilliant three-run homer to take the lead into a 7-0 irrefutable position.
The Yankees, who were playing without their top short-stop Derek Jeter after he went on 15 day disabled list due to his strained right calf, did not let the opposition stabilise throughout the game. Their starter Freddy Garcia held the opposing batters to
no-score until three innings but allowed two runs in the fourth inning, one each to Mat Gamel and Yuniesky Betancourt.
Garcia did not allow any further runs, as he completed his six innings spell and took his seventh win despite getting just one strike-out over 76 pitches. However, he improved his record to 7-6 with 3.28 ERA.
The Yankees’ batting, on the other hand, kept blistering. Teixeira hammered a two-run homer in the start of the sixth inning. Jorge Posada followed Teixeira and drove in an RBI single. Russell Martin added the fourth run of the inning and took the lead to
11-2. Swisher scored another RBI single in the 12th inning to cement a 12-2 win in the bottom of the eighth inning.
As the starter had provided the strong start, the Yankees’ relief pitcher Hector Noesi carried the same momentum and struck-out three batters, allowing two no-score hits over two innings. Closer Cory Wade tossed a perfect ninth inning to take his club into
their 46th win of the season.
The Brewers’ ace Zack Greinke had a bad day as he allowed seven run on five hits including one homer over his two innings pitched. Marco Estrada, who relieved Zack in the third inning, held the Yankees to no-score from the third to the fifth inning but got
a little loose in the sixth as he allowed three runs in the inning.
Relievers’ Zach Braddock and closer Tim Dillard allowed one run each. Only LaTroy Hawkins remained scoreless over his one inning spell.
