New York Yankees humiliate Texas Rangers 12-4 - MLB Update
The New York Yankees crushed the Texas Rangers 12-4 in a batters dominated three-game series-opener, at Yankee Stadium, New York on Tuesday, June 14.
The Yankees’ batters blistered 12 devastating runs while pitchers permitted the Rangers to make only four runs. Yankees scored six runs in the second inning, one in third, two in fourth and three runs in the sixth inning while the Rangers made two runs each
in the fourth and fifth inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, Eduardo Nunez drove in an RBI single off the Rangers starter Alexi Ogando to lead off the six run second inning. Then Brett Gardner hit an RBI while Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira both scored an RBI double to take
the score to 6-0. After this run, the Rangers’ manager Ron Washington readily replaced Ogando with reliever Michael Kirkman.
Kirkman closed the second inning and made a strong start of the third inning but he threw a wobbly pitch to Nick Swisher, who launched it to the left-field for a one-run homer. The score was 7-0 before the start of the fourth inning but the Rangers’ top
slugger Michael Young drove in an RBI double against the Yankees’ starter Carsten Charles Sabathia to reduce it to 7-2.
The Yankees’ batters were not ready to allow some relief to the pitchers of the Rangers. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Alex Rodriguez blistered a line drive RBI double to the left centre-field to take the lead to 9-2.
However, the Rangers’ Craig Gentry and Elvis Andrus each scored an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning to trim it to 9-4, but after this run the Rangers failed to touch any pitch for a run. Then in the bottom half of this inning, the Rangers’ relievers
Michael Kirkman and Yoshinori Tateyama did not allowed any run.
In the sixth inning Tateyama gave away a two-run homer to Curtis Granderson and a beautiful one run homer to Robinson Cano. The score moved to 12-4 until the end of the sixth inning.
Sabathia, after allowing four runs in two innings came back and completed his seven innings spell in which he took out six batters and allowed eight hits. With this win, the right-hand pitcher took his record to 8-4 with a 3.28 ERA.
Luis Ayala relieved Sabathia in the eighth inning. Ayala remained scoreless and then closer Lance Pendleton tossed a perfect ninth inning to acquire his club their 37th success in 2011.
The Rangers first three pitchers, Ogando, Kirkman and Tateyama each scattered at least three runs over their small innings. Ogando allowed six runs on one inning, Kirkman went for three runs on two innings while Tateyama scattered three runs on one inning.
Reliever Arthur Rhodes and closer Dave Bush remained scoreless over one innings each.
