New York Yankees humiliate Toronto Blue Jays 7-3 - MLB Update
The New York Yankees’ batters launched three homers to take the club to a 7-3 win over the League rivals Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium in New York, on Wednesday, May 25.
Curtis Granderson hit a RBI single off the Jays’ starter Jo-Jo Reyes in the bottom of the first inning to provide his club a strong 1-0 lead. Then, Andruw Jones launched a dazzling 430-feet long two-run homer, after Nick Swisher flied out to right-field,
to elevate the lead 3-0.
As Reyes has lost his momentum, Mark Teixeira blistered a terrific 379-feet long two-run homer, his thirteenth of the season, to aggravate Reyes’ evening completely.
By the time, the Yankees’ starter Freddy Garcia held the Jays to no-score until the sixth inning when Juan Rivera scored an RBI smashing a pitch to the left-field to shatter his club’s scoreless game.
Garcia allowed two more runs in the seventh inning, one each to Eric Thames and Jayson Nix, before closing his six innings spell. However, it did not provide the Jays any help as Andruw Jones, launching his second homer of the game, has already posted seven
runs for the Yankees.
The score was 7-3 when Garcia handed the ball up the middle of the seventh inning to David Robertson, who successfully threw four strikes to close the inning. In the eighth inning, Joba Chamberlain replaced Robertson, allowed one hit and struck-out one batter
over one inning.
Like always, closer Mariano Rivera again pitched a perfect last inning in his 1000th appearance for the Yankees, becoming the first player in the Major League History to play for such numbers with one team.
"You have to be old to do that," Rivera said with a smile. "You've got to have the right combination, I guess, an organization willing to keep you around and you doing your job."
Reyes handed the ball to reliever Luis Perez after scattering five runs on five hits and allowing two walks without any strike-out over three innings.
The Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell was not pleased with the way Reyes tossed.
"Jo-Jo wasn't as sharp as he's been. He did not have a consistent location or a consistent command and it cost him.” Farrell said. “Regardless if it's a guy coming off of the bench for them, like Jones, they have a potent line-up."
Perez appeared surprising as he did not let the Yankees touch a hit in fourth and fifth inning, but failed to escape the powerful swing by Jones in the sixth.
Following this, Perez threw another scoreless inning but until now, the game had gone into the Yankees’ hand. Shawn Camp’s no-score last inning could not grab a positive result for the Jays.
