New York Yankees humiliated 7-14 against Chicago White Sox – MLB Update
New York Yankees received a 7-14 hammering at the hands of the Chicago White Sox at Yankee Stadium in New York on Friday, June 29 in the second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Credit must be given to the White Sox who dominated the Yankees in almost all departments of the game. The Yankees had the better of their opponents in series opener with a close 4-3 win and Manager Joe Girardi and General Manager Brian Cashman were expecting
the players to continue their good work in the second game as well.
However, lack of concentration resulted in a disaster for the Yankees on Friday evening and the White Sox took complete advantage of the situation to level the series 1-1. Yankees’ pitchers struggled to contain Chicago’s offence right from the start of the
contest. Relief Pitcher David Phelps had a terrible time on the mound as he took his third loss of the season.
"I like Dewayne Wise a lot better when he's making catches to preserve perfect games than when he's on the mound," Konerko kidded. "You can't win, even if you hit it a mile."
"But Rios got jammed. At least I got the bat out," he said.
"I'll be honest, I was very happy I didn't get up against Dewayne," said A.J. Pierzynski, who homered twice for the White Sox. "He's a good friend of mine. And no matter what you do, you're going to hear about it."
Girardi surprised the White Sox by putting debutant Adam Warren on the mound. The 25-year-old looked very uncomfortable and Chicago took complete advantage of his errors, scoring six runs in the second and the third inning.
For New York, Curtis Granderson homered to right-centre in the first and Andruw Jones doubled to deep left-centre to make the score 4-0. However, the White Sox continued to score runs freely with Alex Ramirez hitting a mighty home-run in the seventh to extend
his side’s lead to 10-6. Alejandro De Aza also made a useful contribution in the bottom of the ninth.
