New York Yankees humiliated by Houston Astros 1-9 – MLB News

New York Yankees were humiliated by the Houston Astros 1-9 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Monday August 29 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
It will not be wrong to say that the Astros dominated their opponents in almost all aspects of the game. Astros’ pitching rotation in particular played a key role in deciding the outcome of the contest. Starting pitcher Lucas Harrell showed the stuff he
is capable of. The right hander used his fastballs and sliders extremely effectively to create all sorts of problems for the Yankees’ batting lineup. Striking out batters at regular intervals, he did not allow New York to settle down.
"I know they can do it," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "You're just waiting for it to happen night in and night out and be consistent. That's why we stay positive, because we know it's in there."
"I've seen Andy since 1996, and I don't know if I've ever seen him not have his slider," manager Joe Girardi said. "That has been a signature pitch for him for a long time, and it just didn't have the bite today that we're used to seeing and that's kind
of strange."
Overall, Harrell allowed just two eight hits and one run in six plus outstanding innings to lay the foundations of an impressive Astros’ victory. Relief pitcher Rhiner Cruz also played his part as he pitched the scoreless ninth to help the Rays hold on to
their lead.
For the Yankees, starting pitcher Andy Pettitte had a forgettable time on the mound as he allowed ten hits and seven runs in just over four innings to take his second loss of the season. It will be fair to say that Pettitte was completely outpitched by Harrell
in a high scoring contest.
Ryan Roberts smacked a solo home run to left in the first inning to put Rays on the board. Sean Rodriguez and Yunel Escobar also made useful contributions to help the Rays post a respectable total on the board. Vernon Wells scored the only run for the Yankees
as he singled to centre in the sixth inning but his effort proved to be very insufficient.
