New York Yankees improving with each passing game – MLB Update
New York Yankees are improving their game play with each passing day. After making a poor start to their regular season campaign, it seems the Yankees are finally putting the pieces of the puzzle together.
Ace C.C. Sabathia started the season on a poor note, losing his first two starts. However, in Yankees’ opening game against Texas Rangers on Monday, April 23 in Arlington, Texas, the starter showed just what he is capable. Showing glimpses of his brilliance from last year, the big guy struck out eight batters to help his team floor the red hot Texas Rangers, who had an emphatic 13-3 win-loss record prior to the game.
"That's more CC-like. That's what we're used to seeing," Manager Joe Girardi said. "I liked what I saw those last four innings against the Twins, and he carried it over today."
"He's been very consistent. That's a pretty good lineup," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "They do their business in that batter's box. They pick their spots and make you pay."
Veteran Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez are also peeking at the right time for the Yankees. Jeter played a key role in Yankees’ win over Texas with four hits and Rodriguez hit a towering three run home run that shifted the momentum towards New York.
"That's a big three-run homer because it kind of breaks the game open a little bit," Girardi said. "And we got a big two-out hit from Curtis (Granderson) in the first."
Yankees looked completely down and out in their opening three game series against Tampa Bay Rays. They looked short of answers and Tampa Bay made them pay heavily for their unforced errors. Thrashing New York in each game of the series, the Rays their first series sweep.
The Rays have gone cold since then but the Yankees seem to have learned their lessons as they have now won 10 out of their last 13 games. Without a shadow of a doubt, the Yankees have one of the most prolific pitching attacks in American League and the Major League Baseball but can they deliver the results on consistency basis still remains a question.
