New York Yankees interested in R.A. Dickey but Texas Rangers most likely to get him - MLB Update
According to the sources close to the matter, R.A. Dickey is about to be traded to one of a number of teams interested in him.
The latest club that emerged with hope of acquiring Dickey is the New York Yankees but the sources report they have little chances of making this deal happen.
Texas Rangers are more likely to convince the New York Mets of being awarded Dickey to them. It is due to the availability of outfielders and some other players with them that the Mets look for at the moment.
In contrast to the Rangers, the Yankees are not going to sacrifice what the Mets will force them to in order to let the Dickey go there.
Simultaneously, the talks of contract extension of Dickey are progressing, which makes the whole process of deciding his fate by the Mets quite interesting for the fans.
As Baseball Winter Meetings come to an end, Dickey will be aware of the fact that the chances of his getting contract extension from the Mets are declining fast.
The teams that yearn for Dickey have everything that can please him but he loves playing for the Mets. He does not want to depart an organisation where he won the Cy Young Award the first time in his career.
The club which saw him throw knuckleballs and unsettled batters all through the year is certainly an unforgettable place for him.
Meanwhile, there has arisen another possibility, which is that the Mets retain Dickey for the 2013 season but do not renew his existing agreement.
“Things are moving forward on two tracks,” General Manager of the Mets, Sandy Alderson said. “While we are waiting for a better trade offer, we are still exploring bringing R.A. back. I don’t think its necessarily the optimum result, but it’s a possible
result. If that’s the one that ultimately transpires, then we’ll be happy with that.”
As far as Dickey is concerned, earlier he agrees to a new deal, the better for him, because if he waits for another one or two years it will be nearly impossible for him to earn even a fraction of what he can get right now.
Only the time will tell as to how the Mets treat the issue of his contract renewal in the next few days.
