New York Yankees interested in Spurs takeover

The New York Yankees have emerged as the next possible foreign investors in the English Premier League after announcing a £450 million offer for Tottenham Hotspur.

The baseball powerhouse who have won 27 World Series and 40 American League Pennants, are the biggest franchise in the US with an annual bill topping £130million.

The Yankees are also known not to fall short of spending having set the record for the sport’s highest-paid player after signing a ten-year £178m deal with Alex Rodriguez in 2007.

News which would appeal to Spurs coach Harry Redknapp as any added funds would help to purchase new players before the season, and make Spurs a real threat in all competitions.

The Daily Star broke the story reporting that the interest from the Yankees came after owner George Steinbrenner died last week, and control was handed down to his sons Hal and Hank.

Both Hal and Hank have always been keen on football and always had the interest in investing in a major club one day after missing the opportunity in the 1990s.

Now it all comes down to current owner of White Hart Lane Joe Lewis. The Bahamas-based, East End-born businessman who’s worth £1.5billion.

Lewis may be tempted to sell after he and his partners lost £500m in the Bear Stearns bank collapse.
