New York Yankees leave Robinson Cano on waiting list – MLB News
The New York Yankees had ruled out the demands of Robinson Cano to adjust his deal before the start of next Spring Training to avoid any risk that may come in the club’s way after the 2013 season.
As the Yankees are now currently concentrating on the Carsten Charles Sabathia’s opt-out clause, the club has given the All-Star second baseman, Cano an indication to wait until his turn.
An official of Major League Baseball with in-depth information of the situation has disclosed the scoop saying, "Highly, highly unlikely." The deal between the club and the Cano, by no means, will be considered before the club end up their discussion with
Sabathia.
Cano has a 15-million-dollar option for 2012 and 14-million-dollars for 2013 as his agent Scott Boras asked Yankees for a new long-term deal. According to one major newspaper, Cano’s agent Scott Boras had already contacted Brian Cashman to ask for the removal
of the options on his client to allow him for new contract extensions.
Cashman seems not to pay any attention over Cano’s demand as he prefers to neglect Boras’ calls.
"I called Cash to ask about dropping the options, and he hasn't returned the call," Boras told the newspaper.
Boras has been reported to bounce his remarks through the media, warning the Bronx Bombers about the risk that might be involved in letting Cano to become a free agent after the 2003 season. Not to mention, Boras has also expressed full interest to take
his client into an open market, if the Yankees did not pay any heed to his requirements.
Said the baseball official, "It's understandable what the player wants, but in reality, it's not going to happen."
The Yankees long-term contracts with Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and Allan James Burnett, along with possible results with CC Sabathia have already bound the club. With this many long-tenure players, the Yankees have no reason to pay heed to Cano, especially
when they have the player for two more seasons.
Cano’s demand might be because of his batting brilliance in 2011 season. He led the club with a .302 average and scored 118 RBIs with 28 homers. His name was also given place among the best all-around players in MLB and his manager Joe Girardi has considered
him the best hitter in the Yankees’ line-up.
Cano will get 29-million-dollars for the next two years.
