New York Yankees likely to exercise Freddy Garcia’s 2012 option – MLB News
The uncertainty overlapped the New York Yankees club after Roy Oswalt’s stay with the Philadelphia Phillies is starting to revolve around and has turned into a serious situation for General Manager Brian Cashman, according to a major news source.
The rumours that Texas Rangers’ C.J. Wilson is thinking about his stay with the club has added fuel to the problems for the Yankees, as the club was hoping to fill their pitching rotation with either Wilson or Oswalt. Although it is not finalised yet, it
had created a sense of tension in the bureau of Bronx Bombers.
To relieve the pressure, Brian Cashman, who recently agreed to a $9 million three-year extension, seems to have interest in holding Freddy Garcia for the 2012 season. On Thursday after free agency doors opened, the Yankees and right-hander Freddy have reportedly
discussed the player’s return in the 2012 season.
"I think there is mutual interest," said Chris Leible, one of Garcia's agents. "I think Freddy had a good year and enjoyed playing there."
News hit the floor by Garcia’s agent Chris Leible, who informed the reporters that on Monday before Cashman and Carsten Charles Sabathia signed a new $161 million contact he and Cashman had a brief discussion about Garcia’s position. At this time Cashman
was fully committed to bring Sabathia back into the club before moving forward to his off-season plan.
With Sabathia signed, Cashman said he now could be "conservative" and not be in an "emotional, over-reactive state because we are vulnerable."
Cashman has reported with thoughts of bringing something burly behind CC Sabathia next season for which he struggled hard, but now the scenario seems to have changed. With the same rotation as of this year, Cashman might think of holding Freddy Garcia despite
looking for other free agents.
Wilson, Mark Buehrle, Roy Oswalt and Edwin Jackson are now free to discuss their future with any team in Major League Baseball. A week ago, Cashman also scouted on the Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish.
As Cashman had an interest in Roy Oswalt and C.J. Wilson, the GM now will have to seriously consider Garcia. Since the reports have broken out that Oswalt, who played a 9-10 season with a 3.69 ERA, the Yankees have taken their hands back.
