New York Yankees looking at Mariano Rivera to agree on smaller contract – MLB Update
Some say that the New York Yankees are playing bad managerial tactics once again but this time involves relief pitcher Mariano Rivera.
Similar kinds of developments were witnessed during the big deal of Yankees’ current skipper Derek Jeter some two years ago.
The Yankees made Jeter’s agent agree to a three-year extension worth $45 million while now the Yankees want Rivera to agree to cut his last year’s $15 million salary in order to give a new potential contract.
Rivera, since coming into Major League Baseball in 1995, never played for any other franchise than the Yankees while now he is seeking a new contract with them.
“I bet that bothered Brian for one, maybe two seconds, If Mariano had said something like that, now that would’ve bothered Brian,” A friend of Yankees' general manager Brian Cashman.
Brian Cashman, certainly is the main person in the Yankees' management who is initiating these talks with Rivera and his agent to accept the offer.
“He wants to come back. We want him back, That’s the hard part. I am sure we will work through the issues,” Cashman said yesterday at the general managers’ meetings.
Later Fernando Cuza, Rivera’s representative, told a news paper, “I can’t comment on that, Brian and I have not talked about that.”
Though these are still media speculations as no side has come out in the media and explained about this late situation.
However, many experts do believe that this is not a good thing that Rivera and Yankees are indulged with these inconsequential complexities. Yankees is considered one of the richest franchises in the MLB and showing this kind of attitude on one player’s financial as well as professional outlook is certainly bringing much disgrace to them.
The next few weeks are critical when both sides will be revealing their final stances on a new fresh contract.
Regarding Rivera and his talents, everyone in the league knows that how much he is still capable to pitch in the MLB which brings this fact that many other teams will also be interested in his free agency.
He finished this recent past regular season with 2.16 ERA along with five saves and eight strike-outs and 0.96 WHIP.
