New York Yankees looking to put things on track – MLB Update
The 2012 World Series is over. Having won the title for the second time in three years, the San Francisco Giants will be an extremely happy camp. General Manager Brian Sabean knows that it’s time to move on from the celebration.
Giants’ Jeremy Affeldt, Angel Pagan and Marco Scutaro are among the 137 players declared as free agents. The GM meetings are expected to be held next week and most team will have already planned on how to overthrow the defending champions Giants.
New York Yankees, who were annihilated by the Detroit Tigers in the best of seven match American League Championship Series, will also be looking to build a team capable of claiming the World Series title. However, looking at what the Giants did to the Tigers
after Detroit had swept the Yankees is a reminder of how valuable momentum can be in the post-season.
Tigers looked set for their first World Series title since 1984 until they faced the relentless Giants. It is not unusual to see four game losing streaks during the regular season. However, riding such a streak in the post-season can turn into a disaster
and the penalty for such a stretch is devastating.
“When you work in the front office,” Sabean said, “there’s not a lot of down time.”
Yankees dominated the American League East Division throughout the season. They were declared as the favourites to win the World Series title by most analysts.
Manager Joe Girardi knows that the Yankees are far better than what they showed against Detroit just like the Tigers were not as bad as they looked against the Giants. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees can gain momentum at the right time in the
next season.
Girardi has already started to take care of his offseason assignments. On his to-do list, the top priority was building a strong relationship with every player. Thus, the skipper called Alex Rodriguez to ensure both share common objectives. Rodriguez, who
was benched in three out of eight post-season games, will be looking to up his game-play to win back his fans’ hearts.
