New York Yankees looking to trade centre fielder Curtis Granderson – MLB News
New York Yankees are looking to trade Curtis Granderson, reports nydailynews.com. The Yankees already have four open vacancies in their lineup. If Granderson is traded, there could be another vacancy opening up in the coming weeks, the source further claimed.
Although the Yankees have not any official announcement on the matter as yet, reports have surfaced that they have been quietly looking to trade Granderson for the last few weeks.
Granderson, who is in the final year of his contract, posted some impressive numbers last season as he hit .232 with 43 home runs and 106 RBI’s. His OBP .319 was also among the best in the American League. He also leads the Majors with 84 home runs over the last two seasons. In addition to a right fielder and catcher, they must find a third baseman and a centre fielder.
“We could always think about doing stuff on guys we have under our control,” Brian Cashman said “It’s not something I would talk about publicly.”
“The things that have come off the board this week, I’m very comfortable with (letting them go),” Brian Cashman said. “I like those players, and those players could help us, but at the same time I’m comfortable with the direction we’re currently headed. After the fact, you run into people who are like, ‘Man, I didn’t want to do that, but I had no choice.”
The 32-year-old will be expecting a huge payday when he enters free agency at the end of the next season. The Yankees have already considered the possibility of moving Granderson from centre field to corner outfielder spot. Therefore, if Granderson departs, they will have to find a pair of outfielders through trade or free agency.
It seems Yankees are looking to make the move in an effort to free up the payroll. General Manager Brian Cashman will now be looking to play the waiting game.
Earlier, Nick Swisher also showed no interest in coming back to the Bronx, thanks to Yankees reluctance to offer a long term deal. Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox all have shown interest in free agent Swisher.
