New York Yankees lose 0-3 to Toronto Blue Jays in crucial outing – MLB Update
New York Yankees batting line-up failed in a vital three-game series finale with the Toronto Blue Jays, as they received a humiliated 0-3 shutout defeat to lose the series 2-1.
Yankees’ top slugger Alex Rodriguez, who launched a three-run homer to help the Yankees defeat the Blue Jays in the second outing, failed to repeat his slugging performance and went 0-for-4. Right-hand hitter could not generate much force in his arms to
stretch for back-to-back home-run games. Rodriguez entered into four at-bats and failed to touch even a single hit on 16 pitches he faced.
Captain Derek Jeter was sitting on the bench to provide a chance to the young Ramiro Pena, who twice became a victim of the Blue Jays’ starter Brandon Marrow. However, Jeter was aware of the problems happening in his bullpen and was not pleased at all.
"We have to have a good home stand," Yankees’ captain Derek Jeter said. "We're all looking forward to getting back there because we haven't been there in a while."
Designated hitter Robinson Cano and Russell Martin being a consistent part of the Yankees were in the limelight but both struggled as they did not live up to all the expectations of the manager Joe Maddon and fans. Only Martin managed one hit over three
at-bats.
Girardi, however did not blame both hitters instead he acknowledged the road trip as one of the toughest in this season.
"It's been a tough road trip," manager Joe Girardi said. "This has been a really, really tough stretch. I know our guys are pretty worn down. Hopefully, they get to sleep in their own beds and catch up a little bit."
Over their 30 at-bats, Yankees touched only five hits off combined 125 pitches they faced over nine innings. Only Erick Nunez was able to touch three hits but did not receive any hitting back-up.
Starter was also struggling as he allowed three runs on five hits and walked three batters in just over four innings. However, rest of the pitching department remain solid. Luis Ayala, Sean Proctor, Raul Valdes and George Kontos each did not receive any
run.
Yankees’ gave some rest to Curtis Granderson, Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira. Now the club will travel back to their home ground in New York, where they will face the Minnesota Twins in a single outing before hosting a promising Tampa Bay Rays.
