New York Yankees lose to Baltimore Orioles 6-10 – MLB Update
New York Yankees were thrashed by Baltimore Orioles 6-10 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, September 6 in the opening game of their four match series.
With their win, the Orioles reclaimed their number one status on the American League East Division standings table. Credit should be given to Manager Buck Showalter who has used his resources absolutely perfectly this season.
Not many baseball analysts expected Baltimore to be at a position where they are right now. It will be interesting to see if they can continue their excellent form over the next couple of weeks to make it to the playoffs for the first time after almost a
decade.
"You couldn't ask for better," manager Buck Showalter said with a smile on his face. "A special environment. Really appreciative. It helped. It was a real difference-maker for us."
"When you're playing a team for first place, a loss is a loss," Yankees’ Manager Joe Girardi said in a post game interview. "We swung the bats extremely well, but we didn't pitch well tonight."
Yankees’ starting pitcher David Phelps was hit hard in his four innings of start as he gave up five runs on six hits in just over four innings. Relief pitchers Joba Chamberlain and David Robertson also paid the ultimate price for their errors on the mound.
Robertson allowed three runs and three hits to take his sixth loss of the season. After Orioles took an early 4-0 lead, Curtis Granderson singled to right centre in the fourth inning to put Yankees on the board.
Alex Rodriguez doubled to deep left centre to score the second run for New York in the eighth inning. Granderson, Chris Dickerson and Ichiro Suzuki combined to help their team come back from behind to level the score 6-6 as Yankees scored five runs in the
eighth.
"They are playing with a lot of confidence right now," New York's Alex Rodriguez said. "You have to tip your hat to Baltimore."
Adam Jones, Mark Reynolds and Chris Davis hit back-to-back home-runs to help Orioles wrap up an impressive victory.
The Yankees will be disappointed with their performance as they struggled against the surging Orioles.
