New York Yankees lose to Detroit Tigers 3-1 for the first time – MLB Review

The New York Yankees went to Michigan to compete against one of their toughest rivals, the Detroit Tigers for a four-game series at Comerica Park in Detroit. Tigers were furious over their 2-1 series loss at Yankee Stadium. Whatever the statements were coming
out of the Yankees camp, their road record was the biggest pressure for them. It set the foundation for the Yankees biggest blow of the season.
In the first outing of the four-game series, at Comerica Park on May 2, the Yankees managed to come out of grave pressure and beat the Detroit Tigers 5-3.
Despite the fact that Justin Verlander was at the mound, the Yankees’ bat did not stop until they piled a 3-0 lead in the first two innings. Jorge Posada opened the game with an RBI double and then Eric Nunez advanced the score to 3-0 in the top of the second
inning. Although the Tigers managed to tie the score at three-all, but they took seven innings.
Both camps were burning in the scorching heat of the park. The game was tied 3-all and none of the pitchers was allowing any run. However, Nick Swisher showed that he was upbeat more than usual and scored a lead off run in the ninth inning then Alex Rodriguez
scored on pass ball by Alex Avila.
After making the game to their name, the confidence of the Yankees was back and the club now was sure of their first road series win over the Tigers in the 2011 season. However, the situation was not as simple as the Yankees had predicted it.
The Tigers were playing at their home with their own fans and their officials. A jubilant camp of the Bronx Bombers landed with extra determination, but it was not enough to beat the Tigers for the second time.
Detroit achieved a two run lead in the bottom of the second inning and then carried their dominance until they finalised the outing with a score of 4-2. Yankees could touch only two runs, one in the fourth and the second in the eighth.
Although the club lost a crucial outing, the Yankees had test their strength. Yankees were ambitious for their comeback, but they had to face another blow when Tigers shut them out 4-0 to take 2-1 lead in the series.
Max Scherzer struck-out nine batters and allowed only four hits for no-score over his eight innings. The entire batting roaster of the Yankees was surprised to see an unplayable pitching performance. Garcia on the other hand yielded ten hits and four runs
over his seven innings. It was his second defeat of the season.
Before this outing, it was not sure if Jeter would be able to play this game or not. "It's not a big deal," Jeter said. "It's not an injury. It is just one of those things that happen throughout the year. It was a little sore and Joe decided to take me out
for the ninth."
As a single game was left, the club could only level the series. It was the top priority of Girardi to save the series. Allan James Burnet was given the driving seat to take the Yankees out of this hurricane. The right-hander gave a single in the first,
but quickly stabilised before allowing four more. He allowed five runs over seven innings and was unable to help the club.
Tigers won the third outing 6-3 and the series 3-1 to take revenge of their opening defeats. It was the biggest blow the Yankees had to face since the start of the season.
