New York Yankees lose to Oakland Athletics 2-3 – MLB news
New York Yankees continued their poor run as they took another embarrassing loss against the Athletics 2-3 loss against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday, June 13 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
A lot of credit should be given to the A’s pitching rotation for producing another magical performance, playing a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Athletics’ starting pitcher Jarrod Parker produced a powerful performance as he allowed just
five hits and two run in eight solid innings to grab help his side stay in the contest.
In a the longest game of the season, relief pitcher Grant Balfour, Ryan Cook, Jerry Blevins, Pat Neshek and Hideki Okajima combined to pitch four plus scoreless innings of relief. However, it was Jesse Chavez who walked away with his first win of the season
after he gave up just one hit in five plus scoreless innings to help the A’s prevail in a thrilling encounter.
“It was his deal,” Nate Freiman said of the cut fastball he saw. “That one he always throws. A little broken-bat blooper over the third baseman, and the other one the same place,” Rivera said. “You can't do anything about it.”
“I think it's probably a little more frustrating because you can look at how you had an opportunity here and an opportunity there,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. “A lot of guys probably look at that, but it doesn't change the result.”
For the Yankees, starter’ Hiroki Kuroda had a great time on the mound as he allowed just two hits and two run in eight effective innings but he was unlucky to end up on the losing side. Relief pitchers David Robertson, Boone Logan and Adam Warren showed
nerves of steel under pressure but closer Preston Claiborne gave up the tie breaking single in the eighteenth inning and the Yankees suffered an embarrassing series sweep.
Robinson Cano provided the Yankees with a perfect start as he homered to right centre in the first innings but his effort also went in vain.
