New York Yankees lose to Seattle Mariners 0-1 – MLB Recap
The New York Yankees lost to Seattle Mariners 0-1 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, August 4 at Yankee Stadium in New York City.
Yankees’ played extremely poor from start of the game and could not stop the Mariners’ quality offence which consistently kept them under pressure during the entire game and later hammered them.
Yankees’ upfront offence miserably failed and was never able to show any quality plays against the Mariners’ rather defensive play. Their experienced batters just could not find the right areas to hit while their pitchers also looked tired on the mound.
"That's probably the best start I've seen as a manager, In a 1-0 ballgame, he knows one pitch can be the ballgame. That was just special stuff to watch today. What you saw today, you're not going to see anything better than that," Seattle manager Eric Wedge said.
Every area of Yankees’ play did not resemble their fighting nature as they suffered a humiliating defeat from the Mariners who is considered one of the weakest teams in the American League West Division.
Yankees’ batting line-up and at the same time pitchers played with low energy and gave enough chances to Mariners’ to take control of the game which eventually landed them a narrow defeat.
Yankees’ starter Hiroki Kuroda pitched 6.1 innings and allowed one run as he also allowed seven hits and struck-out only four Mariners’ batters on his 3.19 ERA.
On the other hand, the Mariners’ starter Felix Hernandez played beautifully and earned a great victory for his team. He never showed any loop-holes in his game and kept the Yankees' batters under pressure throughout the night.
“I hate that," Hernandez said. "When you get a quick two outs and then you walk somebody."
Later Seattle shortstop Brendan Ryan said for Felix, "Even on a Felix day, I still figured there'd be some better swings out there, and there were a couple balls hit hard, but that was outstanding, That changeup, it defies science."
Both teams will now play their decisive game on Sunday, August 5.
